Mastectomy Bras
Mastectomy bras range in as many styles, sizes and colors as fashion
bras. Mastectomy bras are also called pocketed bras because they have
a thin mesh or thin cotton pocket inside the cup that the breast form fits
inside of. These pocketed bras are also covered by ALMOST every
insurance; the standard for most are 2 bras per year, however, remember each
insurance company and each policy is different.
POST-SURGICAL BRAS /
CAMISOLES
Most post-surgical bras are very soft with less
construction. They, of course, are designed to wear immediately
following surgery when you are still a little swollen and your incisions are
not yet healed. They can be worn while sleeping for years. The
Jodee post-surgical was designed to provide more support, opens in both
front and back, has a back extension that can be removed when the swelling
has gone down and has velcro-on-pockets that hold your drain tubes.
Camisoles are also designed to wear immediately following surgery and are
also very soft, have pockets for a very soft 'puff' that won't affect your
incisions. LEISURE BRAS
These bras are a cross between
post-surgical and a sports bras. They are soft, have pockets and can
hook in the front or back. Many people wear leisure bras exclusively
because of their comfort. POCKETED BRAS
DO NOT WEAR a pocketed or
standard bra with a weighted silicone breast form until 5 to 6 weeks after surgery.
You need that much time for the swelling to go down and the incisions to
heal properly. Look at the post-surgery / leisure bras during this
time. Pocketed bras are the
bras you will wear for the rest of you life. Bras are designed for
every life style; some are covered with beautiful lace and come in various
colors, some are designed for full coverage and provide the support for a
very full figured woman. All have pockets inside each cup to hold the
breast form. Remember each fashion and mastectomy bra is designed for
a different type body |
